What caught my attention in week thirty-one, 2023
In continuation to week 30, here are a few thoughts and things that caught my attention in week 31, 2023:
- 🤒 I was on sick leave for almost the entire week and felt accordingly. Towards the end of the week, my wife also fell ill. As a result, we didn't experience much.
- 🧳 Nonetheless, we somehow managed to pack all the things for our summer vacation and take the kids and the dog to the Baltic Sea by train.
- 🚶♂️ I cycled 15 km and walked only 42 km, including 25 km with the dog.
- 🩻 My son's hand was X-rayed again. Fortunately, surgery is not required. He just needs to continue wearing a cast for the next three to four weeks.
- 😡 Lately, I've been getting annoyed too often with the software quality of Apple products. I am aware that the alternatives are not really better, or rather, they don't really exist. But I've decided to try not to buy new hardware products until I feel that the software catches up to the hardware again.
- 👨💻 From Thomas Mathoi, I got the tip for Lightweight PDF - a free alternative to PDF Squeezer (Setapp).
- 🧵 I finally added a blogroll to my little blog and couldn't help but to buy another domain and set up a blogroll for blogrolls: blogroll.lol
- 🐘 Automadon has now been officially released. I wasn't expecting it anymore, as it had become quite quiet around the app after the initial rapid development of the beta. I'm definitely thrilled about it because I could create a shortcut that exports all the links of my Mastodon-saved bookmarks to Anybox at the end of the day (and they are then pushed from there into my Daily Journal in Obsidian). Finally, a "native" way to archive bookmarks 🥳. But Automadon can do even more: Automadon provides a suite of Shortcuts actions for Mastodon with support for multiple accounts. Actions available within Shortcuts include: Post to Mastodon; Get account details, timelines, and following/follower lists; Interact with posts, including boosting, favoriting, and bookmarking post…
- 🔗 Certainly no replacement for Anybox yet, but since Interlink seems to have died, and Raindrop is still not an option for me, it's nice to see that another alternative is being worked on: Linkeeper: Effortlessly Bookmark Websites.
- 📰 Also a nice idea. Information Superhighway: Scroll through and skim an endless feed of random Wikipedia articles. Tap the one button if you want to learn more or just keep skimming.
