What caught my attention in week fifteen, 2023
In continuation to week fourteen, here are a few things that caught my attention in week fifteen, 2023:
- ๐ During our Easter vacation, I made yeast dough for 26 pizzas and baked them with my brother-in-law in a wood-fired oven. We both had no idea how to do it and we were very happy with the result.
- ๐ตโโ๏ธ Since we had taken our bikes with us on vacation, I took the opportunity to make the return trip by bike. It was 206 km, which I cycled in about 10 h. Not the first time over 200 km for me, but always a challenge. Thanks to tailwind and good weather, however, it worked out well.
- ๐ช โTraining Today seems to be a great tool, because it "consistently monitors your Apple Watch health data to determine your readiness to train (RTT) each day and throughout the day". (Thanks @simimon@nrw.social)
- โช Gruber linked to the Holographic stickers for your MacBook: "Show off the power of your M-series MacBook with these beautiful holographic stickers". They really look cool.
- ๐ Make Something Wonderful was released: "A curated collection of speeches, correspondence and photographs from Steve Jobs revealing his approach to life and work with Apple and Pixar." It was very well received. Unfortunately, I haven't had time to read it yet.
- ๐น I've recalibrated the battery of my replaced Playdate and installed the latest OS release. Hope, it will fix my problems. Anyhow, the first Catalog update landed with five new titles. I own the itch.io version of Gravity Express already but bought Sparrow Solitaire - what a great game. BTW I thought I would enjoy Word Trip from the first Catalog drop, but so far I don't like it at all ๐ข. On the other hand I really do enjoy Ratcheteer, which was part of the Season 1.
- ๐โโ๏ธ โSurfed - Browsing History & Bookmark Manager: Surfed is a Safari history and bookmark manager that enables you to search your browsing history using multiple criteria. It stores all visited websites in Safari, allowing you to create dynamic lists of visited websites and get an accurate overview of all sessions. While the UI is still a bit rough, the app offers steadily increasing Shortcuts support. I contacted the very friendly and quick responding developer regarding the privacy aspect of his app, and he assured me that no data leaves the device. I have subscribed to it and will see if I use it regularly.
- โ Joined the Streaks TestFlight. I use this habit tracker for several years now. Maybe I'll find a bug an can report it.
- ๐ค S-GPT was updated to version 1.0.2.
- ๐ค If you don't want to pay for MacGPT and you're fine with "just" using the web version of ChatGPT, then QuickGPT might be the one: "Easily access ChatGPT from the menu bar, Dock, or using a keyboard shortcut. You can download the app for free by putting $0 in the price field."
- โฌ Craig Hockenberry released Blank for tvOS. Personally, I use headphones or Home Pods in the living room to listen to podcasts or music, but many people seem to have been waiting for somehting like this: "It turns your screen black and keeps it that way until you press any button on a remote."
- โ๏ธ The recent AnkerMake M5 speed bump is insane.
- ๐จ Printers are bad. They can be unreliable and often fail to work as expected. But, if you need a certain pattern for your blank sheets of paper, go to generatedpaper.com: free printable papers for the daily use.
- BTW if you're looking for a new one, "hereโs the best printer in 2023: the Brother laser printer that everyone has. Stop thinking about it and just buy one. It will be fine!". ๐ฏ ACK
- ๐ฝ Kottke linked to Floor796, an "ever-expanding animation scene showing the life of the 796th floor of the huge space station!". Lots of references to movies, games, anime and memes.
- ๐ The banana art from another Kottke post is so cool, that it already seems fake.
- ๐ช I was on the verge of looking into mechanical keyboards and considering which of Keychron's > 3,000 different models might be suitable for me as a Mac user with a German keyboard layout. But then Victorinox released new models, the Evoke Alox and the Swiss Spirit Limited Edition. I then (unfortunately) could not resist my collecting passion for SAKs and now have new pocket knives and no new keyboard. ๐ซ
- ๐ฎ You can now play Tetris in your browser. BTW I still have to watch the movie.
- ๐บ Watched the last two episodes of Ted Lasso and ๐บ The Mandalorian together with my wife and my sons.
- ๐ Esp. during my extended bike ride I had some time to listen to podacasts: ATP: 529: The Cycles of Marco, ATP: 530: You Are Not Nintendo, Automators: 125: AppleScript Events and more with James Thomson, Clockwise: 497: Mounting My Phone Like an Uber Driver, Hello Playdate Podcast: Episode 28 - The Lushes Land, Mensch, Maschine!: GPT & Co (3/3) โ How to GPT?, MeTacheles Tonspur: Wie Apple das Metaverse rettet, Playdate Podcast: b360, Playdate Podcast: Ratcheteer, Playdate Podcast: Reel Steal and Recommendation Dog!!
